The country is constituted of individuals from different economic backgrounds. There are people who make in excess of a hundred thousand dollars per month and then there are others who barely make twenty thousand dollars or so per annum. Hence, it becomes increasingly clear that health insurance will vary between these two extremes.
Just because someone is rich, doesnt mean that they should get better health options than the others. It is often found that people who earn less dont have access to as many medical facilities as the ones who are better off. This is unfair and probably one of the reasons why society is not developing at a pace that it should have.
Having a public health plan will ensure that even households with extremely low incomes can enjoy the benefits of having good healthcare. Since people with limited salaries cannot always afford private healthcare, it has become increasingly clear that we need to do something to fix the problem and ensure that everyone has access to healthcare, regardless of their financial status. A public plan will be priced nominally and should be within the reach of anyone who might require it. Since one cannot risk healthcare due to limited money, there should be an alternate option to get good quality healthcare without having to pay a fortune for it.
Unfortunately, this is not exactly music to the ear of private insurance companies. Since they bank heavily on customers opting for them to get better coverage, they are vehemently against the government introducing a healthcare plan that is priced less and has comparable quality. The sad part is that these companies view health care as just another business and are not particularly concerned about the welfare of the individual. As long as they are getting their money, they will not be upset with anything.
However, things need to change. The public health plan should not worry private companies as most of the people who are going to opt for it are the ones who dont have any kind of coverage presently. This is to be considered as a market that really wont dent the finances of the private firms. Besides, the fact that the private companies increased their profit margins by a whopping 428% over the past few years is something that they need to keep in mind if they are worried about losing money just because of a public health plan.
